Mars goes retrograde on 1/23/12

Today Mars began his retrograde motion in the sign of Leo and he will remain retrograde until April 13, 2012. Astronomically,

this means that Mars will appear to be closer to the earth than usual. Astrologically, it means that Mars is a stronger influence than usual and that the energy will be high and at times aggressive during this time period.

As always, we have choices as to how to use this Martian energy as no matter how challenging a placement may be there is always something to be gained or learned from the planets. Mars is in Leo and will strongly influence the signs of Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius and Pisces. If you have planets in those signs there will be times of direct impact in the upcoming months.

Mercury and Rahu

As we move through the holiday season Mercury and Rahu will be sharing space in the sign of Scorpio. This conjunction can be highly energetic and bring surprises into one's world. As Scorpio is a water sign there can be an emphasis on emotions combined with a nervousness. Mercury and Rahu together can bring about what is known as "high vata" which basically means that the nervous system can become over-loaded. It is best to try and slow down during this holiday period....do what is reasonable and drop the tendency to try and create perfection. Slow breathing is recommended along with an attitude of "expecting the unexpected." Drink calming teas, take vitamin B supplements and find time to relax.

This conjunction will be out of orb by New Year's Eve and January 4th Mercury will have moved out of Scorpio. On a positive note personal energy is higher, life can be interesting and fun....not all surprises will be negative.

Eclipses and Mercury's Forward Movement on 12/13/11

The good news is that we are done with the eclipses which took place in the sign of Scorpio. Eclipses are known for surprises and the revelations of secrets and quite often we are surprised by news events that reveal both surprises and secrets.

Scorpio is often associated with sexual activity and in the Vedic system is ruled by Mars. This cycle's eclipses brought to us the scandals at Penn State, Syracuse University and Poly Tech which involved a tragic use of power for sexual purposes on teams ruled by Mars, the planet of sports. Scorpio is known for secrets but the power of eclipses are equally known for the exposure of those secrets. Scorpio is not known for gentle action but also has an influence over surgery and healing - hopefully, for the victims of these atrocities the revelations will bring out the healing side of this sign.

This particular eclipse also involved the planet Mercury which was in retrograde motion. For many there was the standard problems with electronics and transportation that occur when this planet is retrograde accompanied by the intense emotion that eclipses tend to bring out in people. The truth is that anytime an eclipse takes place in the sign of Scorpio emotions are going to higher than normal but the water/fire nature of Scorpio could have brought about old emtions related to past hurts as well as a more angry tone to those emotions. Since Mercury was retrograde it was not easy or even possible to openly discuss these emotions but with observation at least the emotions were able to be recognized.

Once Mercury goes forward communication should be easier and many will not feel as if they are trapped by a negative mind-set. Mercury being retrograde during an eclipse does have a positive side as many people were able to keep their reactions in check and avoid adding fuel to personal fires. But, while situations were not made worse it could feel as if one were stuck in a heavy emotional pattern. Mercury moving forward on 12/13/2011 at approximately 8:15 pm, Eastern time should result in a feeling of release.

Mercury will remain in Scorpio until January 4th and for some the challenges and/or emotions brought about by the eclipse may linger until that point in time. From December 27 until December 30th Mercury will be conjunct Rahu and for those few days people may be emotional and/or the resolution of the challenges brought about by the eclipse may present themselves again with an opportunity for resolution and/or communication.

Saturn into Libra on November 15, 2011

It is different to view Saturn as a planet of hope because Saturn has a reputation as a hard task master. However, all planets have a purpose and positive attributes. When Saturn is well-place he is know for solid gains and organization. In Libra Saturn is exalted and will often shed the light of truth on any situation. Libra is the sign of balance and legality. During the two and half years that Saturn is in Libra we can look hope that he will bring some balance into a world that seems so out of balance that it can be hard to find anyone or anything operating with common sense or fairness. Saturn is not an influence of speed or good luck but he does promise that with hard work and intent steady progress can be made.
